The consequences of growth

Over 5 million people have watched versions of an old guy talking about arithmetic on Youtube. What’s the big deal?

If you believe the drivel spouted by those who claim that science and technology can and will fix everything and that we can burn oil and coal to our hearts’ content you need to see this. It’s not speculation, it’s incontrovertible mathematical fact.

If you Google ”The most important video you’ll ever see” this is what you’ll find:

this is a dummy line break
this is a dummy line break

It’s old and it’s low definition, but it’s interesting and it’s very important. Professor Bartlett is looking at the consequences of exponential growth from the point of view of a resident of Boulder, Colorado but his inarguable conclusions are relevant to every person on the planet and most particularly to those of us in the developed world.

If everyone understood the easily grasped basic principles of exponential growth and its consequences we’d be living in a better world. Particularly disturbing in Professor Bartlett’s talk are the asinine views of many politicians, economists and educated media people who seem to believe that basic mathematics and the fundamental laws of physics aren’t applicable in their patch.

It will help you to understand compound interest too. 🙂

If your browser won’t display the embedded video go right to the horse’s mouth.

Here’s a transcript of Dr Bartlett’s presentation.
